Why a performance assessment matters to us

The effects of a market leading MGA

Broker Service and Technology

From TrustPilot and Google, to S&P and Defaqto, ratings are a key part of how we search for, buy from and engage with businesses. They help build confidence and trust in a company and their services, and yet remarkably few firms in the MGA space have sought this kind of validation.

We made the decision to undertake an AM Best performance assessment in 2023 not only to give the industry an honest view of what we do, but to play a role in pushing the industry to challenge itself in the same way.

The value of an accreditation

Put simply, the insurers we work with are rated, so why shouldn’t we be? As an MGA, we’re not eligible to be rated by the same agencies, but we’ve got as close as we can to showing the standard of our work.

We’ve always been proud of our approach and keen to demonstrate our ability to brokers and capacity providers alike. Transparency is vital within the MGA space, so we’ve let the industry decide if we’re doing well. Plus, the assessment gives brokers confidence that our processes, governance and performance are all independently verified.

This commitment holds us accountable to standards not only now but for the future as well. It’s part of a story of raising the bar that has been central to who we are since the beginning.

Since our first undertaking of AM Best performance assessments, we’ve moved from a PA-3 ‘Strong’ score to our most recent PA-2 ‘Excellent’ result in 2025. This has been a significant moment for us, with only a handful of MGAs across the industry having secured their own assessment – and even fewer with one that demonstrates such consistent performance and evolution.

Support from the industry

So, we believe an accreditation is important, but what about others?

Our 2025 industry broker survey backed the call for ratings and assessments throughout the insurance sector to bring peace of mind to brokers and their clients. In fact, the results were resounding.

When it came to insurer ratings, 98% said capacity backing from A-rated or highly rated providers makes working with an MGA more attractive, while 89% said having the claims service backed by A-rated insurers was either important or very important.

Brokers were also keen on greater monitoring of MGAs, with more than two thirds (68%) calling for the FCA to introduce a regulatory framework for MGAs, and the same proportion (67%) then more likely to work with MGAs as a result. The monitoring and review included in achieving an ongoing performance assessment is a good step in the direction of ensuring this best practice aim.

The AM Best accreditation we secured is particularly highly regarded within the sector. Four in five brokers (81%) believed more MGAs should undergo this performance assessment, with 77% identifying an AM Best assessment as a positive influence on their decision to work with an MGA.

The results of our 2026 survey will be out later in the year, as we continue to assess the appetite for assessments and standard setting within the market.

Moving the industry forward

Although our upgraded ‘Excellent’ accreditation sets us in highly respected but limited company, we’re not looking to rest on our laurels. Rather than stand alone, we’re keen for other MGAs to follow suit, creating a more transparent, verified and competitive sector where dynamic and innovative businesses challenge each other to improve standards for the greater good.

We back ourselves in what we can do, and in the relationships and reputation we’ve built. Our goal is now to be a leading voice in a more effective and forward-thinking industry.
